Not a “Homegrown Songwriter from Our Sweet Home Alabama” buta songwriter with an interesting story to tell.

Singer/Songwriter Sean Patrick Adams was bornin Dallas, Texas, lived in the Panama Canal Zone for 17 years and now residesin Corning, New.York. He started playing guitar at age 14 but did not startwriting songs until later in life.

“Well, I will say that the songs I write come from theheart. After losing my wife that I still loved very much to divorce, I startedto write songs as a form of therapy for myself. I wrote down the good and badfeelings that I had and started composing songs that expressed the way I felt.This was a form of healing for me and I discovered purely by accident that mysongs were a hit with all my friends. They could relate to the things I said.This was the beginning of an incredible journey for me!

Most of my first songs were about love, hate and hurtfeelings…sad songs. I got past those feelings and started really learning howto write songs. I started exploring other genres and topics of expression inChristian Praise & Worship … songs about saving the planet… about lifeand death and the hurdles we sometime face by just living. I have survived andconquered depression, addiction and feeling that being adopted meant I wasworthless.

Finally, I now feel that I’m coming into my own in life. Iknow who I am, what I want to accomplish. I’m still new to all of this but I’mvery excited about what the future holds. I have been approached by a couple ofmusic labels and producers to make my music mainstream.

My two best friends, who are awesome musicians, are intraining for the ministry. I hope to work with them to help with suicideintervention for teens and young adults. I would also like to start or workwith an organization or ministry to work with other adopted children who nowfeel as I used to feel. To help them understand that they are very special andGod put them here for a reason.

Weirton, Virginia, USA. Karen Staley is a singer-songwriter whose credits include a number of songs for Faith Hill (‘Take Me As I Am’ and ‘Let’s Go To Vegas’), Patty Loveless and Tracy Byrd (‘Keeper Of The Stars’). Raised in Georgetown, Pennsylvania, Staley claims to have been attracted to a career in music through the boredom she endured at the Methodist church meetings her parents took her to. In October 1984, she relocated to Nashville. Kathy Mattea recommended her to Bob Doyle at ASCAP, later Garth Brooks’ manager, who introduced her to various publishers. Within a month she had a staff publishing deal. Her first big hits came with Patty Loveless - ‘Lonely Days, Lonely Nights’ and ‘Wicked Ways’. After establishing herself as a songwriter she signed with MCA Records, but lost her way when the label was taken over by Universal. She moved to Warner Brothers Records instead, and received rave reviews for her 1998 debut for the label, Fearless. Karen is commited to charitable work and is a humorist as well as a hit singer/songwriter and performer.

Curtis was raised in Lewisburg, Tenn., but has lived most of his adult life in Alabama. He began writing songs at the early age of 12, and, by the time he turned 19, he was signed to ASCAP by Garth Brooks' manager Bob Doyle.

Curtis has written and co-written such great songs as "Drive Another Nail" by Randy Travis; "Father Knows Best" by Ricky Skaggs; "Get Up In Jesus Name" by Lee Ann Womack; and "Carpenters Son" by Sawyer Brown. He also wrote seven of the 10 songs recorded by Marty Raybon (former lead singer of Shenandoah), and began producing, which resulted in several No. 1 hits, that garnered Dove and GMA nods.

Kurt Fortmeyer was born in a barn and raised in a stable environment, or so he might tell an unwitting listener in one of his sillier moments. His life was changed irreparably at a tender and impressionable age when he was subjected to Roger Miller, Allan Sherman, Chubby Checker, and Trini Lopez.

His first solo show was at the HOLE IN THE WALL SALOON in Raleigh, North Carolina. In the late '70s, influenced by Jack Kerouac, Jesse Winchester, and Townes Van Zandt, he hitchhiked coast-to-coast...

Singer, songwriter, retreat leader--Keith Elder has spoken and performed for over thirty years in a wide variety of church, conference, and community settings. While serving local churches in North Alabama as a youth director then as a pastor, Keith continued to write and record, play small concert venues, and provide leadership for special events.

One of our own "Homegrown Songwriters From Our Sweet Home Alabama" ... a nicer person you will not meet! And, you've always heard "behind every successful man is a woman" ... TRUE ... as you read through this article, it is very clear that Jennifer with her intelligence, clear thinking and sweet nature knew when to gently "push" Ken in the right direction!

Kenneth started composing songs while stationed forNASA in Washington, DC in 2005, when his wife, Jennifer (now co-writer), bought himan acoustic guitar for $1 on EBay. He found the songwriting process to be verytherapeutic after stressful days at work. They moved back to Alabama in June of’05, and his daily job once again took over for a few years.

So, in early 2008, Jenniferinstigated a small intervention of sorts because Ken was working lots of overtime anddid not realize the duress he was under. Jennifer suggested he kick back a littleand find a creative outlet. For Valentine’s Day, she bought him a Washburnguitar and studio recording session for the 10 songs he had written. Afterthe first session with professional musicians he was hooked!

Since then,Kenneth has written 110 more songs, including co-writes with many of hisHuntsville songwriter friends as well as Nashville professional staff writersand artists. Kenneth now has Jennifer contributing to some of his latest (andbest) tunes. While Kenneth’s style has evolved more to the rough-n-rowdy styleof contemporary country, like his current single “Bad Ass Country”, he’s stillknown to throw down the occasional hearty love song.

2011 was a jamb-packed year for Kenneth and Jennifer. Jenniferkicked it off on Valentine’s with his custom Martin guitar. Everythingstarted falling in place from there, including writing 46 songs and recordingthe seven studio singles Kenneth has started releasing on ReverbNation.

Kenneth and Jennifer have made countlessroad-trips to Nashville, writing as well as playing shows at the Bluebird Café,the Commodore Grille, Ri’chard’s Café, and Bellcourt Taps and Tapas. Kennethprogressed to the semi-finals in the Puckett’s Grocery Rising Star contest, andperformed in the Nashville Ear Songwriter Series at Nashville’s Bost HarleyDavidson dealership.

When at home in Huntsville, Kenneth continues tomake music with his friends at the local songwriter hangouts, The Coffee Tree,The Daily Brew, and CD’s Bar and Grill.

Kenneth is a member of Songwriters For Surviors. He is right there to support the Benefit Series helping to raise money for victims of the April 2011 tornado outbreak. He is also involved in benefits for the Renaissance Theatre in Huntsville, Alabama.

Randy Duck is a retired police officer in Huntsville, Alabama. He is also a great singer and songwriter. He's also an Elvis Impersonator! Can't get him to do it frequently, but when he does it is entertainment ... embellished costume, black wig, the whole works!

Randy is very active in getting funding and promoting The Huntsville Police Fallen Officers Memorial. He does many benefit concerts to honor our men and women in uniform, Military, Police, Firefighters, EMTs. Needless to say, Randy can fill the seats in any venue. We look forward to his shows on Memorial Day, Veterans Day and those he can squeeze in at other times. He is also busy performing at nursing homes and places for senior citizens. Randy is a true man of God and has not had an easy walk in his own shoes but never forgets his friends who are hurting or in need. That's just the kind of guy he is.

I know you will enjoy this video. It makes me swell with pride and invokes bittersweet memories of the fallen heroes dear to me. "Music is what I love! I started writing little songs when I was five and more detailed lyrics by age seven. Believe it or not, I was a dancer for seven years. Something I loved very much. Long story short ... when I was younger, I was knocked down at a skating rink and injured my knee. I wasn't able to dance like I used to. Down the street from the dance studio was the Coffee Tree Books & Brew and I happened to drop in one songwriter's night. It's so true that God opens another door when one closes. I started singing at the Coffee Tree Books & Brew Songwriter Open Mic. At first, I was shy about sharing my songs, but a songwriter friend encouraged me by saying God gave me the gift to write music and I should share that gift. I joined a songwriting group and met some great people who have been very encouraging!"

"My favorite part of a song is its lyrics. Sometimes people say “Oh, I love this song!” and when I ask 'What’s it about?' they will sometimes say they don’t know, that they don’t listen to the words. If you are someone who does that, it’s perfectly all right, but as for me, I find it impossible to NOT listen to what is being said. I love listening to the story being told in the song, just as much as I enjoy sharing stories in the songs I write."

John Tinger

Some of life's most powerful interests and avenues of expression begin at an early age. My desire to play the guitar started at the tender age of eight. A neighbor first introduced me to the wonders of this marvelous instrument. My interest was immediately sparked as I watched her play. I was hooked! I knew that music would play a major role in my life. The first guitar I held was a modestly priced instrument, (red, white and blue!), of questionable quality.

Formal instruction was essential and with tremendous motivation and dedication, I made rapid progress in my studies. By the time I had reached early adulthood, my talents were such that I was able to enter into collaboration with like-minded musicians, eventually leading to the creation of a band focusing on cutting-edge experimental rock and heavy metal. After many well-received live engagements and promising recording sessions, my disillusionment with the commercial music scene began to grow, eventually leading to my putting aside my beloved instrument for nine years.

As I grew personally, exploring other methods of artistic expression, my music career came into perspective. I realized just how important music was to me. It was becoming more apparent with each passing year that the genuine expression of my musical soul might best be articulated in acoustic styles rather than the more provocative and energetic electric medium of my earlier years. Finger-style artists such as Alex Degrassi (with whom I have studied) and Michael Hedges spoke to me in ways that other guitar virtuosos had not. It was their commanding influence that brought me back to music, this time focusing exclusively on the acoustic medium.

Once again I was dedicated to music with a passion I had never before experienced ... as though a higher power was guiding me to a deeper, more spiritual involvement with this medium, resulting in a satisfaction and fulfillment unmatched in my younger days. I hope that, in some way, I can reach and inspire others to similar interest and expression. Ultimately, arousing and nurturing such interest in others is undeniably even more fulfilling. This would explain my compelling desire to instruct others willing to study music and the guitar, a pursuit that has harnessed my wholehearted commitment.

Born James Chapman Polhemus in Stuttgart Germany and brought up nicknamed 'Buddy' in the deep southeast (now residing in Huntsville, AL), Chapman has had unique insights into the development of a Folk musician. "A writer is not necessarily the one that shouts 'Hear Me!' (that's the performer talking) , but one that listens and seems to whisper 'I heard you'." Whether it's the sound of a human trotting across the prairie, the epic life of a tree, the loneliness one needs to combat garden gnomes or a view of war through the eyes of a 4 year old boy, Chapman's songs are honest and simple. "If the song is good, the genre doesn't matter! Choosing among frames for artwork has never been my passion, that's for the talented producers & cover artists" "After having written my first song at the age of 12, I have finally found so many decades later the exact reasons I write songs. I write to remember. Once I have learned either a complex idea that I think is important to answer back to life, or a humorous perspective I want to recall to bring some levity to the insanity, I make a song out of it... selfish as it may seem I do it for me so this is why I share it and welcome everyone to the therapy session I call a 'Live Performance'. Our charity will directly benefit the United Way of Limestone County, Alabama. The United Way will use the funds to purchase lumber and materials, at cost, for rebuilding homes destroyed or damaged by the April 27th tornadoes. The building supplies will be donated to those homeowners who were uninsured or have received inadequate FEMA funding or inadequate insurance payment.

The Amish Community of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, have, once again, come forward and volunteered their time, workmanship and love of giving for LABOR, FREE OF CHARGE, to rebuild and/or repair these homes.

Tornado Relief - Fam Jam 2011 Engall's Harbor - Decatur, AL

On April 27, 2011, tornadoes ripped through large areas of Alabama leaving large paths of destruction and people without homes in Northern Alabama and the Tennessee Valley. Neighbors have joined hands to raise money to benefit those left homeless or with extensive damage to their homes. Many were uninsured. Would you come and join us to help raise money for this worthy cause?

The Family Jam 2011 promises to be a fun-filled week-end. It is being held in conjunction with the Bassmaster Elite Series which is wrapping up its 2011 season on Wheeler Lake with its Dixie Duel competition June 16^th-19^th. The Family Jam Music Fest offers two days of ongoing live entertainment, children’s activities and games, and topped off with a spectacular fireworks show.

There is no charge for this event, but donations will be accepted throughout the week-end. MaryJustice will be joined by songwriter friends, Matt Morrow and Andrew Velez on Sunday, June 19 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.

Matt Morrow

Matt Morrow is a singer-songwriter from Guntersville who writes acoustic folk music in the vein of Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, and Ryan Adams. Matt frequently writes from the perspectives of other people, his songs sometimes sounding like short stories. "I like to write songs that tell the stories of people who you wouldn't expect to have stories to tell," he says. His album, Burlap and Gold, which contains songs inspired by the lives of people from Guntersville, will be released this spring. Matt plays acoustic guitar, banjo, piano, harmonica, and other instruments on the record, which also will feature vocals by MaryJustice Lucas, violin by Celtic recording artist Tom Morley, and drums by Guntersville's own John Harvey. Matt is a multiple MOVA Songwriter's Competition winner, and has played concerts all around the country.

Liz Riehl

Liz Riehl is a singer/songwriter from Guntersville, Alabama. She began her writing and recording career in the early 1990's and continues to do so today. Most of her tunes have been labeled "Country Folk with an Edge" by those that know her in the Nashville Music Community. Liz has performed at most venues in the northern Alabama area ... Panoply, Big Springs Jam, Boaz Harvest Festival, Lakeside Summer Concerts in Guntersville, Albertville Freedom Festival, and Gadsden Riverfest, just to name a few. Her performance is a combination of original tunes mixed some oldies but goldies!

The songwriter community experienced yet another great loss in the passing of our friend Stan Moore. I met Stan through music about 30 years ago and it was likewise through music and songwriting that we had more recently again been drawn together at the Coffee Tree and the NSAI meetings. I’ve been around a lot of musicians and songwriters over the years and you can tell the ones who truly love music and songwriting. The ones that dearly love it and have it deep in their heart and soul will *never* be able to quit and will continue to come into your life as the years go by with their songs out of that love and passion …and such as it was with Stan. It was released last year on John's album "Bigger Hands." This video was recorded during The Jim Parker Songwriter Series at the VBC in Huntsville, Alabama, where he hosts a monthly show.

Happy Birthday, BD!

BD started the Songwriters Open Mic at the Coffee Tree Books & Brew in Huntsville, Alabama, an event mentioned frequently on this blog. I suppose you could say that this blog came into being because of him. We stumbled onto the event one Wednesday night after MaryJustice's ballet class for a sandwich and cup of coffee, totally unaware of what that would mean to us. There were a handful of songwriters strumming guitars and singing their songs… just a handful. Now the place is packed on Wednesday nights ... new comers and old friends sharing what they have written and carrying on his tradition of encouraging and helping one another.

Donald B. Faulkenbury was born June 20, 1947 in Pageland, NC. He took the name BD Chase and began playing bass professionally in 1967. He played in scores of night clubs, roadhouses, dives, and the usual assortment of weddings and played up and down the east coast in a variety of "beach bands" doing mostly Carolina shag music, oldies, and rhythm and blues. He also performed backup for such groups as The Platters, The Clovers, The Coasters, Clifford Curry, Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs and a brief two-week stint with a young country singer named Randy Travis. BD decided to go solo in 1987 and in '93 retired from professional performances concentrated on writing. BD won numerous awards at the Mountain Valley Arts (MOVA) Festival. BD said, “I've enjoyed this aspect of the business a lot more than the performing end but have yet to see any financial gain, however, as any songwriter knows, once you start, you're hooked”. “So, if I never make a dime on any of my songs, I'll continue to crank'em out”.

BD was a talented artist who loved painting caricatures and Americana. Some of his work is displayed at the Coffee Tree Books & Brew.

BD went home to be with his Lord on July 9, 2008. BD is lovingly missed by his family, friends and The Coffee Tree. His friend, Ken Dupree stepped up to host Songwriter’s Night. BD, he is faithful to get first time singers to sign the guitar. The first one got so full a second one was added.

Each of these talented performing songwriters are frequently seen presenting their new songs at The Coffee Tree Books & Brew in Huntsville, Alabama. Most are members of the North Alabama NSAI Sanctioned Chapter. It’s hard to believe that it’s been just a little over a year that they met and started inviting each other to share time in their showcases. In the past several months, this blog has featured or advertised events for these guys so if you are a frequent visitor of this spot you’ll recognize them.

Now, don’t get me wrong…as I stated before they are talented….multi-talented, vocally and instrumentally! They each love writing and singing songs, and making music with various instruments while holding down full-time “day” jobs. So, as to not show any partiality, I’ll introduce them in alphabetical order:

Doug has 40+ years experience performing everything from funk to reggae to rock to country to jazz. Doug plays guitar, piano and other musical instruments and has shared the stage with many nationally-known artists, including: The David Nelson Band, Pete Sears of Jefferson Starship, the Neville Brothers and many others. He is one-half of the outstanding duo, “Uncle Bethel” and the owner and operator of Rockit Juice Audio.

James is the percussionist with all sorts of gadgets from tiny cymbals to rain machines. For someone so quiet and unassuming he can certainly make a lot of noise! You probably recognize him from the duo, Ron & James. James is a technician who assists in heart surgery. Far too complicated for me to give any detail. Ask him when you ask for his autograph.

Ken is a rocket scientist who was so embroiled in his work that his wife, Jennifer, bought a $1.00 guitar from eBay to get him into a hobby. As Ken states it, he “noodled” around playing favorite tunes and then started writing songs. Once again, his wife gave him a little shove toward music by paying for studio time to cut his first CD. The start of something amazing!

Lisa plays several instruments (including cow bell). She grew up singing in church, choruses, theater, and sitting in with the occasional band. She has a great vocal range, can take the lead or harmonize. Look out Winonna! In addition to song lyrics, Lisa writes poetry and is working on a “blockbuster” novel. She’s the other half of the duo “Uncle Bethel” and oh, yeah, Lisa is also a rocket scientist.

Marcia is a vocalist whose sound has been likened to that of the late Karen Carpenter. Her vocal experience ranges from theater, Praise & Worship Leader, choir and she can go solo, sing harmony and will occasionally throw in a few “moves.” Marcia plays French Horn but refuses to “lug one of those heavy things around” since she finished school. Marcia is an insurance marketing manager. She is also this blogger’s beautiful daughter!

MaryJustice, an award winning singer/songwriter, started composing songs and singing before she could write. Her mother, Marcia, recorded them in a journal as she sang. MaryJustice became more serious about writing songs at age seven. By age 12, she knew she wanted a career in music and songwriting and gave up ballet to concentrate on music. She recently started playing guitar and is learning electronic keyboard. MaryJustice, 15 years old, is a homeschooled high school student. Yep, you guessed it…she’s my beautiful granddaughter!

Ron plays guitar and is the man of many harmonicas. He occasionally picks up the mandolin and autoharp. Ron has years of theatrical experience and probably knows the lyrics and music to every thing played on the radio in the last three decades. Yes, he’s Ron of the Ron & James duo. Ron is also in the medical field…something else complicated that is associated with heart surgery.

So, one day (or probably night), Doug (remember I listed people alphabetically)… but who always comes in first with the bright ideas… exclaimed, in his entrepreneurial voice, “Since we rehearse and perform together why don’t we form a band!” So this group put together a great band covering every music genre of originals from gospel, pop, rock, Americana, country. Then they started sprinkling in some cover songs from the 1960’s to 2010!

Since I advertise, photo, video and write about this gang (and others), I kept asking for a name for this band…Then one Wednesday night, at the Coffee Tree Songwriter’s Open Mic, the whole group went to the microphones to sing a song one of them had written … I should state here, this was a “first” for seven people to present a new song together… I don’t even remember which song or who wrote it… As Lisa introduced the new song, she also announced the premier appearance of A Band Named Sue. Of course my mouth fell open and I was speechless …. for a little while! LOL!
So… give me a drum roll, James!

Last Saturday, April 10th, MaryJustice auditioned for the Homegrown Talent Competition to be held during Huntsville's Panoply of Arts Festival on Sunday, April 25th. Out of about 30 contestants, 10 were selected from this audition. Three auditions were held on different days at the beautiful Bridge Street Town Center. Talent entries include singers, dancers, actors, bands and are categorized by age not talent. MaryJustice will compete in the 15 - 20 age group! Come on out, everyone to cheer her on with this new song she wrote just last week.

Uncle Bethel, a singer/songwriter team, features Lisa Car and Doug Budzak on vocals and all instruments.

The pair, formerly billed as VOODOO CHILI, decided it was time for a change when they began writing songs for the Nashville market. The name, "Strong & Beautiful" was considered for a time, but when the question "Which of us is going to be Beautiful?" couldn't be settled, they decided on UNCLE BETHEL, in honor of a favorite uncle of Lisa's from Silver Point, TN, because: (a) they thought it sounded cool & (b) it wasn't already taken. Lisa and Doug write their own songs and have collaborated with other writers. Lisa and Doug also own and operate the Rockit Juice Audio recording studio. Through their music, they hope to be noticed as performing songwriters, make an obscene amount of money and retire to the lake!

Kenneth Cooper, NSAI member, started "writing" songs while stationed near Washington, D.C. in 2005, but never took them live or recorded until 2008. Janet McLaughlin

It was an honor to meet Janet McLaughlin, a multi-talented performing songwriter. We met Janet, last year at a songwriting competition MaryJustice entered and several times since then. Alabama-born, but now living in Nashville, this lady wears a warm, sincere smile .... a very contagious smile that instantly puts one at ease. Janet seems to be a boundless bundle of energy who loves to ride horses and play guitar.

"Shine In The Moon" is a delightful work taking the listener on a wonderful journey. "Whispered Prayer" and "Where I Belong" give an insight into the challenge that delayed Janet's finishing this project.

On December 12, 2005, days after recording the first four tracks, Janet suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a spontaneous bleed between the brain and the skull. The next five days found her in the neurological ICU of Nashville's Baptist Hospital.
Her doctors credit her survival to her quick response and attention to what she knew was extremely serious. Although slower than Janet would have liked, her recovery was steady and she credits it to the love and support of her family and friends seeing her through this difficult and physically challenging time. Janet, herself is a caring, giving person, who in addition to writing and performing, enjoys working with young songwriters. Janet has volunteered her time at the W.O. Smith Community Music School and for many years has donated her time to the Country Music Foundation and Museum's songwriting program for school age students. I know she has been very encouraging to MaryJustice in her songwriting and singing pursuits. Thank you, Janet.

Janet was in Huntsville for a Jim Parker Songwriter Showcase recently and we got to meet Carson, "My All American Boy" who almost stole the show.

In addition to all the things mentioned above, Janet does agility training and competition with her dogs which I think are all rescues.

"My All American Boy," AKA "The Agility Song," was played throughout the 2008 USDAA World Games in Scottsdale, AR.

Wow! Unbelievable things going on in my music world!

I am blessed to have Diana DeGarmo, American Idol runner up, join me with her amazing voice and stunning beauty. She has a new album project in the works with songs being produced by multi talented and award winning, performing songwriter/producer, John Rich!

I'm also very fortunate to have my long time friend, gorgeous, talent, singer/songwriter from Canada, Melanie Dekker performing along side of me. This incredible talent has graced the world stages over the years and will bring her own special brand of melodic and romantic music to you.

One of our favorites will be returning to give you his renditions of groove music and rockin' songs. An energetic writer and guitarist will amaze you with his picking and singing. Be ready to get it on with Rockin' Ricky Ray. "Stand Up" by Mel McDaniel is just one that'll get your groove thang going. He is also a producer for Doby Gray who has the classic pop song "Drift Away."

Our opening act will be our own Donny Grace. He is co-coordinator with David Swinford of the North Alabama Songwriters NSAI chapter and has been in love with the craft of songwriting for many years. Both comedic and spiritual moments will get you thinking about everyday life.

This week's Songwriters Showcase, hosted by Ken Dupree is dedicated to the memory of the late BD Chase. BD, whose real name was Donald Faulkenbury, died July 11, 2008 at age 61 of heart disease. He was a courageous, quiet, gentle man who touched and changed lives with his art, his music, his wit, his wisdom, and courage. B.D.had a quick smile and encouraging words for all songwriters as he entertained and hosted the Wednesday Night Songwriters Showcase.

This showcase introduces the "America's Child" CD produced by Grace Song Music. "America's Child" featuring 12 original songs, written by George Wells, Randy Duck and Ken Dupree, is a tribute to our military, law enforcement and firefighters.

The title song "America's Child," and "The American Way," were written by George Wells. "FireFighter" was co-written by Wells and Duck.

This evening of music is to honor those who serve and is a memorial to those officers from HPD and surrounding areas that have been killed in the line of duty. Local officers will be recognized for their service not only to Huntsville Police and Fire Departments, but also for serving overseas in the current conflict.

Recently, Randy was a guest on the radio show, "Those Who Serve" which airs Saturdays on Station WQXD, Decatur, Alabama. He and host, Dave Carney talked about the production of the CD, the songs and the mission.

"America's Child" is dedicated to the memory of William Eric Freeman, the young HPD officer slain in the line of duty in 2007, and the sacrifice our officers make everyday - here and in other places around the world.

Fifty percent of all proceeds from the sale of "America's Child" go directly to the Huntsville Police Fallen Officer's Memorial Fund. Anyone interested in purchasing a copy of the CD may contact Randy at randy@randyduck.com.

Meet Leon Venerable!

Born the son of a preacher, Leon has lived most of his life in and around North Alabama. Leon started playing guitar at age four and was on stage at his church by the time he was six. By age fifteen, Leon was playing in garage bands that he helped start. He started writing songs at sixteen, about the same time he discovered roping.

With these loves and the support of family and friends, this singer/songwriter set off on one wild journey. Leon’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.
