Introducing Mike Allen

We live in a time where there aren’t many real things left. It’s a world of man-made islands, factory farming, social media instead of social interaction...and prepackaged music that is as disposable as yesterday’s newspaper. For some, that’s fine. For others, there still has to be an honesty to what they do.

Armed with an acoustic guitar and a list of songs that tell of love found and lost, old outlaws seeking redemption, gamblers, wild women, obsession, jealousy...stories of desolation and hope dealt with through heartbreak and humor. Stories delivered in a way that people can find pieces of themselves in.

Mike’s music is real, pure and honest, whether he is singing and writing about a love gone wrong, finding a new one, or the pitfalls of everyday life and many different life situations, one thing is for sure, everyone will love Mike's songs. You only have to listen to his warm, tender voice, influenced by great Texas performing songwriters like Guy Clark, Billy Joe Shaver, Bruce Robison Rodney Crowell, Hayes Carll and many others, to know this is pure, honest music from the heart.

It is the personal connection found in his songs that Mike strives for. There was one particular case that touched him deeply. A woman waiting for a heart transplant wrote of a song about a crippled rodeo cowboy seeking something to believe in, “Mike, ‘Live For Today’ is a great song!”

Since becoming a professional musician at 16 in 1976, Mike has called the road home for most of his life. He has a strong background as a lead guitarist in Blues, Southern Rock, Country and Country Rock, performing with, or opening for, many top billed acts such as BB King, Albert Collins, SRV, Johnny Rodriguez, Gene Watson, Toby Keith, The Dixie Chicks ... but its the song that drives him. Mike had his first song recorded in 1984, Whiskey and Tears, and has been an ASCAP writer and publisher since 2001. Mike has 4 CD's out, Good For Something released in 2000, A Mile Of Bad Track in 2014, Pieces Of Me in 2016.

Get acquainted with Mike Allen on ReverbNation, Facebook,  Mikes Website, and YouTube.

Watch for release of  Mike's lastest
CD "Texas Soul" March 1, 2017.  Check it out here!

Help Fund MaryJustice Lucas to Romania Orphanage Mission Trip

MaryJustice Lucas is a multi-award winning songwriter and singer, who started writing songs and music at age 11. She has been recording and performing from the Nashville/Middle Tennessee area and Northern Alabama since age 14. Currently, MaryJustice is a senior at Kentucky Mountain Bible College.

MaryJustice has always had a heart to help people in need and has performed many benefits for several worthy causes and organizations. Last summer, she interned at a local church as Youth Praise and Worship Leader/Counselor. In December, 2015, she went to Guatemala with Mission Firefly to minister to children in a remote Mayan village. She is  currently teaching a children's Sunday School class near KMBC, as her Field Ministry.

Visit her website and get acquainted with MaryJustice by reading her biography, watching slideshows, etc. Also listen to her music at ReverbNation and MySpace. MaryJustice is also on Facebook.
The Romanian Campaign

I am full of joy to share with you that God has called me to go on a mission trip with Vision Beyond Borders and a small group from my college, to Romania over my spring break, March 11-19. The reason this is so last minute is because the trip was originally for a different country. I wanted to go, but I wasn’t CALLED to go. And I had accepted that. But then, when my teacher announced that the trip had been changed to Romania, and that we would be ministering to orphans in a local orphanage, God put a tug on my heart that I could not deny.  We will also be reaching out to surrounding Gypsy villages, with people who are also in need of the love and hope of Jesus Christ. I am so hopeful and excited to see how God is going to move and use us in Romania, but I also know WE will come away blessed by them.

The total cost is 2,000 dollars. That includes the plane tickets and food/housing (we will be staying at the orphanage and eating there too. I’m so glad that we will be able to stay with the children).

I am asking you to prayerfully consider donating money to financially support me on going to Romania to share Jesus with the lost and the broken. Donations may be made via GoFundMe (click link below logo).

If money is not an option for you, I sincerely ask for your prayers for me and our group to stay in God’s Will and do all that HE wants to be done in Romania.

Thank you SO much for taking the time to let me share my heart with you!

And thank you in advance for your prayers and donations!

Sincerely,

MaryJustice

Special Day! Special Announcement!

Our very own, Homegrown Songwriter from Our Sweet Home Alabama, MaryJustice Lucas turned 21 today. But, instead of being at home to celebrate with friends and family, she is away at Kentucky Mountain Bible College with back-to-back classes.

God has blessed MaryJustice with many talents and has given her a heart to serve Him by donating her time and talents to raise money for charities and benefits. She started supporting benefits at age 14 and has been faithful to pitch in for the cause. Even when she had to appear via video, she still raised money!

Now, MaryJustice is reaching out to friends, family and fans to support her in raising money for a mission trip with Vision Beyond Borders and students from KMBC  to an orphanage in Romania.

Here are the details:

Come Meet Billy Droze

Born in Lafayette, Louisiana in 1986, the 10th of 12 children, Billy Ryan Droze grew up in Alabama.

As far back as he can remember, he knew that music was his life. “It’s as if I was inserted with a computer chip that made my life revolve around music.” But, the reason is just as likely the influence of his father, Bob Droze, a dedicated country, gospel, and bluegrass musician. Billy was on stage with his dad by the time he was 4 years old, and spent his childhood singing with him everywhere from churches to bluegrass festivals to honkytonks, developing a passion for traditional country, gospel, and roots music that has influenced him ever since. He learned to play guitar when he was 12, and as a teenager would perform anywhere, anytime, for anyone who would listen, sometimes walking miles down country roads, carrying his guitar, just for the chance to play a few songs.

When Billy was 16, his dad had moved to Texas, so he followed him there and spent a year or so playing with his band. After rambling around Texas for a while, he decided it was time to move to Nashville and has lived there ever since. He continued to play anywhere he could, constantly honing his skills as a songsmith and musician. Using the name, Billy Ryan, his ever-growing fan base dramatically increased singing lead on several tours for the Grammy-winning Shenandoah.

After a family tragedy, Billy felt the need for a change of scenery. Billy booked a thirteen-city, nine-country tour of Eastern Europe to promote his third independent album, “Ready For The Ride” which was extremely well-received by fans and reviewers. ”Ready For The Ride” earned him three #1 singles on the European Hot Disc charts.  This tour also led him to Lithuania where he found his soul mate.  When he returned to the United States, it was with his new wife, Marija and their son Nickie.  Billy has appeared in “Country Weekly” numerous times, as well as other magazines and Web sites in the US and Europe. Billy has had 2 major-network country music videos.

And, this “truly unique artist and highly prolific songwriter, with lyrics that dig deep into the heart of life, melodies and guitar style that combine his traditional roots with a modern twist that’s all his own, and a voice so beautiful, earthy and sincere that every song gives you goose bumps,” is just getting started.

Introducing Tegan Thomas!!

Although she is not a songwriter, yet.
 And she lives in Michigan.
Let me introduce  Miss Tegan Thomas to you.

Tegan's Facebook Page
At 11 years old Tegan Thomas is already a "seasoned" entertainer bursting with talent and personality "with a passion for music like no other." She started singing when she was three and has more performances under her belt than some singers three times her age. She's just a normal kid with big dreams and  she will chase them. Tegan is learning to play piano, plays basketball, softball and volleyball. Along with the typical activities of an 11 year old she has performed (mentioning a few) Madd Talent Music Showcases at Opry Mills Mall, Oakland Mall Tunes for Tots, Leelanau Sands Casino for State Finals in the 33rd Annual Country Show Down and opened for Jana Kramer at the Genesee County Fair. Tegan said when she took a trip to Nashville and stood on the Opry Mills Mall Stage she loved it and knew that was her place.

When Tegan was seven she recorded "It's A Miracle" and raised $1000.00 for a classmate who had a brain tumor. Tegan says her goal is to become super famous and raise enough money to help end childhood cancer. I believe she will do it!

Tegan has performed at a benefits to help raise money for Mackenzie, a young girl her age, who needs a heart transplant. Tegan was the youngest performer there!

It was in Nashville at the Madd Talent Music Opry Mills Showcase that Tegan met performing songwriter,  MaryJustice Lucas almost three years ago.
Tegan and MaryJustice

Tegan JUST RELEASED a new video singing "Live, Laugh, Love" written by MaryJustice when she was just a little older than Tegan is now. This was MaryJustice's first award winning song and she is so pleased that Tegan selected it to cover!

Keep an eye on this young lady! I believe she will attain her goal. Visit the links and learn about this awesome young lady.

I know Tegan would love for you to subscribe, like, watch, listen and buy her music!

St. Jude Benefit Update!

Del McGee, Host and Originator of Singers and Songwriters for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This was the 19th year for this benefit! Thank you Del, for all that you do for St. Jude.

September 13th
Dell, "We raised a total of $2,217 at the event last night. We raised $1090 on line for a total of $3,307, and with some more expected this week, plus our matching benefactor. We should be almost at $7,000 for St Jude!!!! Not bad for the first cold night of the season and competing with 2 huge concerts in the area!

September 14th"Just met with our benefactor, he wrote me a check for $4,000......
Puts us up over $7.400...!!!!!" The St. Jude websites are still up and it's not too late to donate if you missed your opportunity.  To my knowledge, MaryJustice Lucas was the single largest fundraiser AGAIN this year, and she wasn't even there. That says a lot, both about her and, her following.
MaryJustice Lucas

Great big shout-out to Doug Donley and his crew of Michelle and David for the sound. They all got there early and stayed late in order to make the show a success and did it all at their own expense. Thanks, Doug. We appreciate y'all.

Big thanks to Tommy Shepard of Tommy Shepard Music, corner of Meridian and Oakwood, for providing the monitors. Tommy has forever been our "go to" source for sound support over the years. If you need any guitar work, a new guitar or instrument, Tommy is a local guy. Grew up here, supports us constantly so just go see Tommy. He's not only a great musician, he's one of us.

Thanks to all of you for your support this year.......Stay tuned, I promise the 20th will be something really special.

Del McGee

Chapman James
Chapman has had unique insights into the development of a Folk musician. "A writer is not necessarily the one that shouts 'Hear Me!' (that's the performer talking), but one that listens and seems to whisper 'I heard you'. "Whether it's the sound of a human trotting across the prairie, the epic life of a tree, the loneliness one needs to combat garden gnomes or a view of war through the eyes of a 4 year old boy, Chapman's songs are honest and simple.

Travis Widner

Travis Widner says he had no idea he would be writing songs and singing in venues when he went to Auburn University as a freshman.  Widner had never written music until he met Chris Williams and they formed the band “John and the Conners”. He has deep hometown ‘roots’ having been raised in Union Gap, AL with a higher than normal musical family. It has focused him and given him a unique perspective into songwriting themes and methods.  Widner spends about 10-12 hours a week playing music unless he is especially “inspired” then he may even hit an Open Mic or schedule a venue with other writers.

Drew Richter
Drew Richter was raised in Alabama but, has also lived in Tampa, Miami, Amsterdam and London. He currently spends much of his time between Florida, Alabama and Nashville TN. He is best known as a singer-songwriter. Formative musical influences began in the early 1980's with the Gothic bands of Europe such as Bauhaus, Joy Division and The Cure. He lived and worked from the United States to Europe performing and co-writing with well-know artists. In March 2015 Drew finished an 11 song recording project at The Treehouse Music Group in Nashville with Grammy nominated multi-instrumentalist Chris Faulk, and multi-Grammy winning Songwriter Jodi Marr. Drew Richter’s first full length solo CD titled “Snake Smile” is due for release 2015.
September Reed

September Reed has serenaded many of Birmingham South Side's creatures of the night with her unique musical style and her sweet, raspy voice. She plays solo and with groups with her range of style running from sweet and sympathetic acoustic to bold and unapologetic A cappella. She has never been attracted to the fame, center of attention aspect of the music industry. Her love for music and songwriting has always been her main deal. September's lyrics are powerful and heart-wrenching ringing true with every note she sings.

Shoals Songwriters
Click Here to help the Shoals Songwriters meet their goal. Your donations are appreciated.
Will Stults
Performing Songwriter Will Stults has been featured at The Bluebird Cafe, The Songwriters Showcase, and many other venues across The Southeast.  His music has been called genuine, insightful, heartfelt, and hilarious.  His Wife is tired of listening, his Mother says his best work is behind him and he has been turned down by some very famous people so he is happy to once again be a part of the St. Judes Benefit.

Lori Lovelace
Lori Lovelace is a songwriter from Florence, Alabama.  Lori has been writing and performing in songwriter rounds and shows in North Alabama and Tennessee for the past ten years.  She recorded her first solo songwriting project in 2011. Lori has a Contemporary Christian project written and recorded with her co-writer and church band mate. CD is set to be released in mid September. In the past two years, she has co-written several songs being performed by independent artists. Her focus is on writing songs to be recorded and produced for pitching to major label artists in Nashville's commercial market.
John Crosslin
John Crosslin, a writer from Florence, Alabama has shared his songs throughout Alabama, and Tennessee, playing coffee houses, bars, theaters, and a multitude of small venues. Some of his songs have been recorded by local artists, and played on local radio stations. His stories and songs are inspired by the struggles and small victories of the everyday common man.

Charlton James

Charlton James was raised in Spruce Pine, Alabama. He now lives in Sheffield, Alabama where he serves as an Associate Professor of Theatre at the University of North Alabama. In 2012, he was the recipient of the Academic Affairs Outstanding Teaching Award at UNA. He holds a BFA in acting from the University of Utah and a MFA in theatre performance from the University of Alabama. As an actor his work has been showcased at The Shakespeare Theatre in Washington D.C., The Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Syracuse Stage, Capital Repertory in Albany, New York, and the Salt Lake Shakespeare Company. Jim Parker
Within a year after getting his first guitar donated by his sister’s boyfriend, Jimmy Gilmer of Sugar Shack fame, Jim was playing in a band and later became a founding member of The Illusions that landed a record deal with Dot Records. In 1966 he and his buddies decided to leave their hometown of Amarillo, Texas, and head to Los Angeles. During that time, The Illusions became “The Kitchen Cinq” recording with Lee Hazelwood’s LHI label for three years. Fifty years later, on August  28, 2015,  Ace Records of the UK and its affiliate US label Light in the Attic Records released  “The Kitchen Cinq, When The Rainbow Disappears”, as an anthology box set complete with a booklet of photos and history of the band. His move to Nashville in 1975 began another phase of Jim’s career. He met a young John Anderson and began writing successful chart songs. Jim branched out and through the years has co-written with many #1, Hall of Fame and Grammy winning songwriters.

Jim is the creator and host of the popular series Jim Parker’s Songwriters Series ® at the Von Braun Center Playhouse in Huntsville, AL where he showcases the incredible talent of his hit songwriter friends from Nashville, Muscle Shoals, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Canada and surrounding areas. The dinner-theater atmosphere has created a highly anticipated monthly event where people listen to great songs and hear the stories behind the songs from the people who wrote them.

Billy and Marija Droze
Billy spent a year or so playing with his dad’s band in Texas, but he decided it was time to move to Nashville, where he currently resides. Continuing to play anywhere he could, Billy steadily expanded his ever-growing fan base. It was dramatically increased by several tours singing lead for Grammy-winning Shenandoah (using the name Billy Ryan). He was signed by RCA/Sony BMG as an artist shortly after arriving in Nashville but that did not develop into what he had hoped for. As a staff writer with publishing deals, Billy had several good cuts including: “You Never Know,” Darryl Worly, Shenandoah, “That’s Why I Run,” Billy Yates (#1 in Europe), “Sunday Clothes,” Randy Kohrs, ”Big Pain,” Marty Raybon, “Bottle Was a Bible,” Junior Sisk.

Billy needed a change of scenery after a family tragedy, so he booked a thirteen-city, nine-country tour of Eastern Europe to promote his third independent album, “Ready For The Ride.”  It was well-received by fans and reviewers and earned him three #1 singles on the European Hot Disc charts. This tour also led him to Lithuania where he found his soul mate. When he returned to the U.S. it was with his new wife, Marija, whose lovely voice blends perfectly with his and their son Nickie. Billy has appeared in Country Weekly numerous times, as well as other magazines and Web sites in the US and Europe. Billy has had 2 major-network country music videos.

Andrew Pope
Andrew Pope, born in Geraldine, Alabama is an American country music singer and songwriter. Pope was signed to MillTown Records in 2012 and released his debut album “Here We Go Again” in November 2012. It peaked at number 63 on the iTunes Country Album charts for 2012. The album features 12 songs, 9 of which were written by Pope himself. It also features guest appearances from Confederate Railroad and Jeff Cook from country super group Alabama.

Bridgette Tatum
In 2009, Bridgette Tatum, native of Florence, South Carolina, co-wrote the most played song on Country radio stations across the United States.  “She’s Country,” recorded and released by Platinum-selling country superstar Jason Aldean, held the No. 1 position on the chart for two consecutive weeks. In 2010, Bridgette’s song, “Loud” was selected as the Official Theme Song for the ACC Football Conference’s 2010 Season.  This fast-paced anthem, captured in a raucous music video, resulted in exposure for Bridgette in over 27 million households. In 2011, she toured with Heidi Newfield as part of the nationwide She's Country Tour presented by Pendleton Whisky. In partnership with the Lano Company, Bridgette released a unique light-up lip gloss, helping to develop her signature color, “Hillbilly Rockstar.”
